Quality Mulching Solutions For Local Homes & Businesses

DeRosa Mulch Product

If you want to maintain a healthy and beautiful lawn or garden, the process of mulching is very important. Mulch provides a protective layer that covers your soil, supports plant health, and guards roots against harmful pests and diseases. It also contains nutrients that help fertilize the soil and encourage plant growth.

If you're looking for quality mulching services for your home or business, you've come to the right place. The team at DeRosa Landscaping provides professional mulching solutions that guarantee the improved health of your lawn or garden. Below are some of the common questions we get regarding our mulching services.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mulching

Why is mulch needed in my landscaping?

The use of mulch is an important part of effective gardening practices and flower bed maintenance. Mulch blocks the sunlight that weeds require to grow, helping to reduce the presence of invasive weeds throughout your lawn.

All the mulch used at DeRosa Landscaping is organic and acts as a shield against insects and diseases. Our mulch is hand selected and brought in for resale to our customers from Northern Maine and Canada. Our mulch is triple ground and is true bark mulch. It decomposes and gives nutrients back to the plants.

What is mulch made out of?

Typically, mulch comes from different kinds of wood, like shredded bark, sawdust, and wood chips. However, there are organic mulch options, which use materials like grass, leaves, and compost. Here at DeRosa Landscaping, we use premium organic mulch from our trusted mulch vendor, MB Bark. We never use dyed wood chips, only natural bark. Our team prioritizes your safety and satisfaction, never using harmful pesticides, creosotes, or chemicals. We also use natural insect repellent to reduce pest activity throughout the mulch.

Does mulch suppress weeds?

Using mulch is a great way to keep weeds from growing in your soil. Applying a thick layer of mulch to your plant bets effectively covers the soil, blocking weeds from accessing sunlight and nutrients necessary to grow. Without sunlight, weed seedlings are unable to germinate, and therefore weeds won't grow.

Does mulch provide nutrients for plants?

Mulch definitely provides nutrients to plants. When mulch breaks down in the soil, it releases nutrients and nitrogen that help improve soil fertility. It also helps reduce water loss, effectively keeping your plants hydrated and healthy.

Are there any disadvantages to mulching?

If your layer of mulch exceeds a few inches, it can bury plants and suffocate the roots. When there's too much mulch, the sunlight can't access the plant roots, meaning seeds won't germinate, stunting plant growth.

What to expect from mulching services?

Our mulching services are available for both residential and commercial properties. We offer it as a stand-alone service or combined with other services like flower bed maintenance and spring or fall cleanups. Mulching is usually done once a year, during the spring or fall.

We normally start by discussing the job with the customer, gathering important information such as yards or job site measurements and the color mulch the customer wants. After collecting the necessary information, we can present a detailed quote to the customer. We can do this over the phone or in person, depending on the situation. The actual process of mulching includes the following:

  1. Current mulch is removed from the plant beds, exposing the crowns of the plants and enabling airflow to prevent disease and root rot.
  2. New mulch is applied to a depth of at least two inches to shade plant roots effectively.
